Until a few years ago the missionaries, often engaged in inaccessible areas and difficult to access, they had a unique way of communicating quickly with the outside world: the radio. Through shortwave radio they maintained contact with the places of origin, with the seats of the organizations from which depended the Mission and the civil and military institutions to handle emergencies. The figure of the missionary / Amateur Radio is very common to find in the civil or religious missions around the world and despite the advent of satellite technology and the Internet this figure is still widespread because the missionaries almost always have to operate in areas almost completely lacking in infrastructure and in these situations the radio is still the most important tool to handle emergencies. Summarizing: where there is a Mission there is also a short-wave radio ready to be used in various ways. In the rare free moments missionaries become enablers "in loco" of Countries not easy to listen to the ups and batteries for the contacts are always crowded. To take care of confirmation is usually a ham at home and manages the increasingly numerous requests arriving after the QSO. In recent years we are increasingly spreading the figure of cooperating volunteer who devoted part or all of his vacation by going free of charge at the missions helping the missionaries in the management of the structures created by them. And it is with great pride that we can say that many of these people are Italian. If the volunteer is also a ham radio in his spare time he also becomes an activator and of course in these cases contact requests are not lacking. And 'one of these figures that relates an interesting listening to this morning when on 18139 KHz began to spread its signal the 5H3MB station operator Maurizio (Italian call IK2GZU) from Cologne, province of Brescia, its yet another journey of solidarity with Ilembula, Njombe Region in the south central Tanzania. With the amateur bands occupied by a contest and a  swinging propagation situation , Maurizio began broadcasting in mid-morning with his Yaesu FT-100 on the WARC band of 18 MHz with a hardly resounding signal but sometimes good enough. Many contact requests from Italy and other countries. According to his Maurizio web page will remain in Tanzania until next April 12, so there will be other opportunities for contact.
